We believe all students should be taught:
--to succeed
--to build a solid foundation in the basic skills
--to write and speak fluently and precisely in complete sentences
--to realize their self-worth, build good character, develop a healthy body, and promote social responsibility
--to think aesthetically, creatively, critically, and cooperatively
--to be technologically literate

Technology Learning in our School
Bristol School has networked computers in every classroom with Internet access. Computer skills are taught twice a week for periods of 20 to 35 minutes each to all elementary students in the elementary computer lab. An established curriculum exists for each class enabling students to be knowledgeable and adept at using basic keyboarding functions by the time they enter third or fourth grade.
In fifth and sixth grade students are learning more complex computer skills. In addition to what is taught in Computer Class, they are becoming proficient at integrating computer skills in their everyday work. In science, English, reading, social studies and other areas of the curriculum, students utilize technological skills enabling them to become more proficient at arriving at answers and expressing themselves.
.
The Bristol Elementary Staff believes reading takes top priority throughout the school, and the teachers work towards creating a positive, fun, rewarding environment for students encouraging them to read whenever possible.
The Houghton Mifflin Company provides the basal instruction for each classroom. In addition, literature selections are read to supplement the other subjects. The Accelerated Reader is a program students in grades three through six are involved in. The Book-It Program sponsored by Pizza Hut provides recreational reading for after-school or weekend hours for all students K-6 in the elementary.
The Mayor of the town of Bristol decreed "Hats on to Reading" in October to emphasize the importance of building good readers. Students put on their hats and read on Fridays.
The "Partners in Excellence" Reading program was run for six weeks before Christmas to ensure that more time would be spent practicing reading. During the program, students collected pledges for their extra reading time and helped to purchase more reference books for our school.
The students of the Bristol School are involved in the community in various ways.
Sun Dial Manor is nearby and students remember the residents with birthday cards. Students provide artwork for the residents and visit them from time to time. Students entertain them in various ways throughout the school year.
Since expression of one's inner thoughts is what writing is basically about, we integrate it with the basic content areas through hands-on activities. We write for purposes other than just to have students write. We help to make students feel rewarded for their efforts in doing their best job possible.
